Let’s Read Good Books

Life is Short. Read Good Books.

My Thoughts:

One of my goals this year is to catch up on current series. I started reading Bamboo Kingdom last year, curious to see if Erin Hunter (Rosie Best) could keep up the same magic with pandas that I enjoyed so much with the Warrior Cats (which I also have to finish). Short answer is yes. The further I venture into this series, the more I find to like. I’ve been listening to the audiobooks, and the narration has been fantastic.

Leaf, Rain, and Ghost are panda triplets that have been separated at birth after a devastating flood sweeps through the Bamboo Kingdom, leaving heartbreak and misery in its wake. Each has struggled to find a place to belong, never really finding acceptance. Circumstances bring them together, and they must unite against Dragon Speaker Sunset to save their families and their homes.

The stakes are always high in Erin Hunter books, and that makes them really hard to put down. There are life and death consequences, as the trio attempt to outsmart both Speaker Sunset and the evil monkey Brawnshanks, and let me tell you, those monkeys aren’t playing around. They are gearing up for all out war against the Great Dragon, and they won’t quit until the new Dragon Speakers have been discredited, driven out of their clans, or killed.

With the monkeys’ sinister plots turning even the triplets against each other, things are at a breaking point at the end of The Dark Sun (V4), and fortunately for me, the next installment, The Lightning Path, was just released. The triplets have said some awful things to each other, damaging the bond they had formed. Will they be able to set aside their differences before the monkeys kill the Great Dragon? I can hardly wait to find out when my hold comes in at the library.
